As a holiday gift for clients, a limited edition puzzle within a puzzle.
For a unique holiday client gift, New York City branding studio, Partners & Spade, wanted to send their valuable clients something more relevant and engaging than a drop-shipped box of carefully wrapped pears. Branding is a rather a collaborative endeavor and their team decided that a puzzle would be an apt gift – and metaphor – for their relationships with their clients,
They sought out and commissioned Canadian-born artist, Geoff McFetridge, to create an illustration for the limited edition puzzle and the result was a puzzle…within a puzzle.
How we produced this limited edition puzzle.
One of the hallmarks of a good puzzle is how un-obvious its solution is. McFetridge’s somewhat amorphous shapes provided a bird’s eye view when assembled. Not just of a puzzle being put together by some folks sitting around a table, but of a team, a family, collaborating and solving a problem together. For this limited edition puzzle, the medium is the message.
Partners & Spade’s designers worked closely with DATAGRAPHIC’s artisan printers and die makers to re-imagine what a jigsaw puzzle could be. The result is an imaginative take on the classic form with the added twist of non-standard shapes that throw foreground and background, subject and setting into a fun, new challenge.
Why DATAGRAPHIC excels at producing limited edition puzzles.
Producing jigsaw puzzles is nothing new to us at DATAGRAPHIC. In fact, we get a little excited at the prospect of turning the squiggly lines on a proof into the carefully bent and folded blades of a cutting die. And we get even more excited when those squiggles consist of a less traditional pattern. Such was the case with this limited edition puzzle.
We’d like to think at least a few of these puzzles ended up in a frame on a wall in an office, ready to inspire some collaboration.
