What is Foil Stamping?
Also known as “hot stamping” or simply “hot foil,” foil stamping is a specialty printing technique we use to elevate the everyday into something extraordinary. As the name implies, the process utilizes heat, pressure, and metallic or colored foil to create a luxurious and eye-catching effect on a variety of substrates.
The heart of this technique lies in a custom-made metal die, which is meticulously crafted to match the design to be stamped. A high level of detail is achievable with these dies allowing for intricate patterns, logos, and even fine text to be legibly reproduced using foil.
To produce the effect, foil is carefully positioned over the material to be embellished. Then, under immense pressure, a heated die presses down activating a special adhesive layer on the back of the foil and permanently fusing the design onto the material. This results in a crisp design rendered in foil with a slight depression wherever the die makes contact.
